- Rookie Shootout:
- Laughlin Excels Among Rookie Class
Braxton Laughlin led 9 of the Rookie Shootout's 15 laps on Sunday Night en route to taking the checkered lap in the caution-free sprint race at New York Autoring in a persuasive performance in his first outing in a full time effort with McBrien Racing.
Laughlin, who made two starts last season in the #11, in for Frank McBrien during a time of injury, faced little competiton, as Dallas Hammond posed the only threat, leading the 6 laps that Laughlin did not before eventually settling for a second place finish.
Trucks champion Tyler Everett finished in third, while Dustin Houston took fourth place, and the first of the none Trucks graduates, Mari Ohara, settled for a fifth place finish for her own team, Aqours Racing.
Laughlin punched his ticket to the All-Star race, while the remaining 14 drivers strapped back in for the Open.

Leckliter Heartbreak Seals Win For Swift
It was a tense finish to the Open Shootout as Connor Swift nosed ahead of his Mach 5 teammate Dallas Hammond to win, leading only the last lap en route. The 20 lap shootout went caution free but held a consistent pack, consisting of 9 cars.
Dean Donohue, Yoshiko Tsushima and Mac Hanley joined Swift and Hammond in the All-Star by placing in the top 5, while 6th place finisher Maki Nishikino, who also sat on pole for the event, was voted into the All-Star race by fans.
The finish did not come without controversy, as lap cars Jack Kelley-Whitt and Bradley Stansfield held up both lines of lead lap traffic on the last lap, meaning the competition came down to who could push the best, with Swift coming out on top.
Race winner Swift, was still not impressed.
"I'm happy to win this but those slow guys could have caused something big" said Swift, "I mean... we have 450 miles on this next week. If they're going to do this all race... they may as well pack up and go home now. They could have let us by. No need for it."
Daniel Leckliter had been in control of the event from the first lap, leading 12 laps, but his car broke down with 5 laps to go, and he and the team chose to retire the car.

Swift Completes Sweep With Convincing Win
Connor Swift proved that his move to Mach 5 seems to be the right one as he took a convincing victory, leading 32 out of the 40 laps in the event. In yet another caution free event, Swift came from 14th on the grid, making his way to the front quickly and never looking back.
Ruby McBrien finished second, only leading one lap, while Matilda Dillinger, Grant Macintosh and Kevin Miller rounded out the top 5.
"This is awesome!" said Swift, "I knew we had a good car but we crushed it out there in the second of tonights races! We made some adjustments... clearly the right ones because we were simply untouchable!"
"Everyone was professional tonight, save a couple of dummies in the Open. No cautions in three races here is pretty impressive and we still put on a good show for everyone! Gotta think what I'm using that Million on though!"
The qualifying races for the Empire State 450 will follow on Wednesday night, with single car runs on Tuesday afternoon.
