(CHASE RACE #3) Indianapolis 100
Starling holds on to Championship hopes at Indy; Hill, Bennett, Guerrero eliminated
Lacey Starling was last in the standings one week ago. The Aberdeen, WA driver's championship hopes were fading fast heading into Indy, but a thrilling victory at Indianapolis over Ryan Jeffries has saved her title hopes in spectacular fashion. This race also saw the end of the championship chase for Owen Hill, Cam Bennett, and Ricardo Guerrero.
"There was a lot of pressure on us and I was so nervous entering today... I knew I had to win and... well I don't know how I did it! The guys were great in the pits and the truck was incredible... I'm just in shock! We get to keep fighting for the trophy!" Lacey Starling said, in victory lane.
"I mean, it's a bummer that we missed it by one point, but I can't be prouder of these boys and girls on the 79 team. They got us a win at New York, and we fought through a lot of adversity. Nothing to be ashamed of." Owen Hill said, staying positive about being eliminated.
Bennett, however, was less than pleased. "I mean, I'm happy for Lacey and all, but I'm still pretty bothered that the person who ended our title run is in the next round. I hate it for this organization, these guys worked so hard to get our single-truck operation in the chase, and we go out first round. I am really proud of everyone on this 81 team, but hopefully Lacey remembers she has no room to complain about backmarkers." Cam Bennett said.
"Unfortunate that we're out, but we just had a lot of bad luck, nothing that was really our fault. Proud of our #05 crew for getting us into the chase. I'll take what I know from experience and help Dallas (Hammond) and Bailey (Bliss) going into this next round, see if we can't still get a Mach 5 truck a championship." Ricardo Guerrero said.
